I would like to share some ideas with you on making an emergency preparedness kit with essential oils.  When people think of emergency preparedness they think of 72 hours kits, or food storage, Thing  you would need if there was a natural disaster, and etc.  It's pretty easy to make a small first aid kit.  But I was thinking about something that aid to Your health.  I would like to share the top essential oil that would be in my emergency preparedness kit. 1.  Lavender,  this oil is probably my favorite. I have used it for years.  Like I've always said,  if you don't know what to use,  use lavender.  It's a calming oil,  it helps you sleep,  it reduces stress and anxiety, it has antibiotic properties,   It is great for inflammation,  it helps burns and bug bites you name it  this oil will help. 2.  Oregano, definently  one of the top  oils for a emergency kit.  This oil is your ...

Home

I am a grandma of 13, 1 more on the way in 3 weeks, so 14 grandchildren.  I took 7 of my grandchildren, that live close by, to the movie,  Home.  In our town we have a cinema complex that is really cool, you bring your own containers and you can get popcorn and drinks at refill prices. So we gathered our popcorn buckets and drink containers and headed out for an evening of fun. This tells you a little about the movie Home: After an alien race called the Boov conquer the Earth, they relocate the planet's human population -- all except for a little girl named Tip, who's managed to hide from the aliens. When Tip meets a fugitive Boov called Oh, there's distrust between both. However, Oh is not like his comrades; he craves friendship and fun. As their friendship develops, the pair set out together to find Tip's mother, but, unbeknown to them, the Gorg -- enemies of the Boov --  Are coming to get them. The  movie was very cute.   All my grandkids w...

another cute new hairstyle

Today's style is pretty easy.  This hair do  is a very cute style that doesn't take much time, but looks like it did.       First part the hair into three sections and place into three pony tails. Then separate each little ponytail in half  and join together with four new sections of hair creating four new ponytails. Then gather the four pony tails into two ponytails along with two sections of hair to create two ponytails.   curl the remaining hair that is left out of the pig tails  Look how cute!

Book review

I would like to say a word about a inspiring book that I read a while back.   The name of the book is Hitchhikers by Bernard Poduska The true story of one man's amazing journey from a homeless and hopeless childhood to a life of conversion and faith . The story starts in the spring of 1948 when Bernard Poduska and his family was evicted from their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bernard was eight year old at the time, it tells of his family hitchhiking across the country trying to find a place to call home.  It tell of the hard times, and the suffering they went through.  It also tell of how Bernard, being an atheist, finds God.  This is a quote from the book.  " you will never know what's on down the road until you've made the journey; be grateful for any rides others may give you along the way, and whatever your destination, the journey is everything-- make the most of it." I enjoyed this book, it is very different than the run-of-the-mill books.  ...

Essential oils

One of the things I love the most is using Essential oils.  I have been using them for about twenty years.  I started out experimenting with oils in the 1990's  when oils were not very prevelent.  The oil I used first was Lavender,  I liked it so much I used it for everything.   I had the saying "If you don't know what to use, use Lavender". Then I got brave and bought a few more.  I have had an exciting adventure learning more about them and how to use them.    I'm not sponsoring any company,  I feel like there are several good brands.  Do your own research and find what you like the best.   I would like to share a recipe for a oil blend to relieve Stress. Stress Relief 4 drops Lavender 4 drops Clary Sage 4 drops Vetiver 4 drops Citrus 2 drops Geranium Put in roller bottle, fill with coconut oil, shake to mix well. Enjoy. I hope this works for you,  I will be adding new oil blends alone with ...

Hair

I have another cute hairstyle tutorial for everyone.  First part the hair down the middle from the forehead to the nape of the neck. French braid three braids on each side of the head. place an elastic around the ends of all three braids, creating one ponytail.  Braid the ponytail and loop the end up into the top elastic.   Curl the ends and spray with hairspray. Finish with some adorable bows.

hairstyle #16

I am So sorry about the pictures for this style. When I get into my little hairstyle world, I forget that I am supposed to be taking pictures as I am going.  Fortunately this hairstyle is fairly self explanatory. First start with a part, either on the side or down the center. then french braid on each side from the front to the back of the head.   Create three pony tails at the back of the head. Make sure they are close together so your messy buns will be seamless. Then make messy buns from each ponytail. For messy bun instructions go here . You can use bobby pins in places there may be holes. Finish with hairspray. Embellish how ever you wish. Poor kid, she will probably hate me when she is older for posting such an unflattering picture. :)

hairstyle # 15 Sweet little rolls with a little fingernail polish thrown in.

So this morning we painted our fingernails. I didn't do a very good job screwing the top of the fingernail polish bottle back on, and my youngest painted her hair while I was doing her sisters hair. Thank goodness for nail-polish remover! It came right out, but it did make me chuckle a little.  Most of the time I can laugh about the things children get into, occasionally it can be too much for me though. :) I am sure, that most mothers can say the same. After taking care of the polish in her hair, I quickly rolled three little rolls, off a side part, and secured them with bobby pins. I flipped her hair up with a large barreled curling iron, and VOILA a darling little hairdo, in less than 5 minutes. Quick and easy, that's how she likes them. Would you just look at those eyes! She is such a cutie. ( I am a little biased though)

Do it yourself Christmas Holiday Wreath Craft

I really wanted a wreath for my door, one of those full, green ones with ornaments on it.  While I was at hobby lobby, I saw a few that I really liked. Then I saw the prices: $109. 00 for a decorated wreath. WOW! Even with the 50% off sale, the wreath STILL would have cost over $50.00. That was WAY more than I wanted to spend. Since I didn't want to spend so much money, and making crafts is such a fun hobby, I decided to make my own.  Final cost was just under $25, plus I had a lot of fun putting it together.  I think it turned out really pretty. First I started with a 30" plain green wreath that I got at hobby lobby. Origional cost was 24.99, but at 50% off it was $12.00  I bought 8 decorative picks  with forest greenery, to help fill out the wreath a little. I also chose different sizes, to give the wreath some dimension. The picks were also 50% off at hobby lobby. I played around with the positions of the picks, until I foun...

Memories

All morning I have been thinking of my sweet little grandmas.  Both of my grandmas passed on quite a while ago. They were both strikingly different, one lived in town and the other lived on a farm.  I would like to share some stories about them, in a blog series called "Memories",  that are so inspiring and demonstrate how amazing they were.  Today, I would like to tell you about my "Town Grandma".   I remember this grandma was an "old grandma", she was born on August  24, 1879,  so when I was almost 6 ( just before she passed on) she was in her 70's.  Even though she died just before my 6th birthday it is amazing how much I remember about her.  Maybe it was because she was truly my best friend.  ,   This is a picture of my grandma and her 5 sisters.  My grandma is on the top row on the right. I want to share a story about her from the early 1900's The year was 1913, Katie Nye Hodgkinson was a young mother ...

Physicians Formula anti-aging set review

So I LOVE Physicians Formula products! A few months ago, I was looking at my self in the mirror, and I came to grips with the fact that I am aging. Although I am only 28, the stresses of raising two children (and sometimes a husband) is really starting to take its toll on my skin. I then decided  I needed  to switch up my normal skin care routine, to allow for some magical anti-aging products. ;) Being a licensed cosmetologist, I had access to a plethora of skin care products. However the nearest beauty supply shop is a 20-30 minute drive from my house.  Since I felt I needed the help immediately, (silly I know) I decided to give the good old Walmart a shot. I felt relatively sure that with my knowledge of ingredients that I could find something that would do.  I find that I am VERY happy that I did decide to try out Walmart.  Physicians Formula just came out with this fabulous anti-aging set.   ...

hairstyle #12 Braided Headband

C calls this hairstyle a "shell braid" lol,  I guess she thinks it looks like a shell. I love this style. because it is so simple,  It looks fabulous, and it can be done on adults as well as children. First you backcomb a section of hair away from the face. At this point your hairstyle should resemble something from the 80's Then you take a small section of hair at your hairline, just above your ear. Braid the section until your about 3/4 of the way to the end. Then repeat on the other side. Secure the braids together to form a headband. Finish with a cute accessory to make it seem even more like a headband.

Oh! Fudge

We have the most amazing local Library in our town.  Every month they have programs in the evening or on Saturdays that are fun and informative.  Today we had a program call "Oh! Fudge".  This was the eighth year of this particular candy making  demo at the Library. However, this is the first year that I attended and I was impressed!  Now, I have been married for 37 years and guess how much Christmas candy I have made... ZERO. Yep, I am not a candy maker.  But, I think I will try it this year.  My husband loves fudge so I think I will surprise him (Boy, after 37 years I think he will be surprised!)   The employees of the Library and other community helpers share their favorite candy recipes and demonstrate how to make it. The taste testing that goes along with it, is DEFINITELY a plus.  Here is one of the recipes, that I want to share with you. Chocolate Covered Cherry Fudge   by Mel...

Boston Jane Trilogy

Hi everyone,  I am here again with another trilogy of books to read.  This is for anyone that just enjoys reading.  You may laugh at this because this is not some sophisticated read.  It is simple, but fun.  In fact, I found these book in the young adult section of our local library.   I loved the simple little story with the true historical setting and facts of these books.  Book #1  Boston Jane: An Adventure,              Book #2  Boston Jane: Wilderness Days,    Book #3  Boston Jane: The Claim  by Jennifer L. Holms. Seventeen-year-old Jane Peck in the darling of Washington Territory more a home in the rugged Pacific Northwest that she ever was in the refined world of Philadelphia society.  She's outwitted wild animals, vengeful ghosts and even a disloyal fiance and finally found a place where she truly belongs.  But when her finishing-...

hairstyle# 11 A Simply cute toddler hairstyle

This style is simple, and easy. Perfect for those little toddlers, who wont hold still long. Plus it gets the hair out of their eyes, which is always a plus. The great thing is this style is for everyone! I have done my hair like this as well. It is so quick, but it looks super nice. Part hair on the side of head. Braid from forehead towards the back of head and secure. I use elastic bands in my girls hair, and bobby pins in my own. Curl the rest of hair with a curling iron. Finish with a cute bow. Gosh doesn't she have the CUTEST face ever? I LOVE that little smile so much!

hairstyle # 10

Do you guys remember the Topsy Tail commercials? I don't have Television anymore, do they still show those commercials? Any way today's style involves two rows of Topsy tails. First part the hair down the center all the way from the for head to the nape of the neck. Take a small section of hair and put it in a ponytail. Create a small hole in the base of the ponytail with your finger. Twist the end of the ponytail over and into the hole then pull tightly. Repeat these steps until you reach the neck on both sides of the head. At the end of your row of Topsy tails, tie the hair into a knot and then pin it with bobby pins so the remaining hair  falls over the knot. Place some cute bows on top of the knots, and voila your finished.
