Do it yourself Christmas Holiday Wreath Craft

I really wanted a wreath for my door, one of those full, green ones with ornaments on it.  While I was at hobby lobby, I saw a few that I really liked. Then I saw the prices: $109. 00 for a decorated wreath. WOW! Even with the 50% off sale, the wreath STILL would have cost over $50.00. That was WAY more than I wanted to spend. Since I didn't want to spend so much money, and making crafts is such a fun hobby, I decided to make my own.  Final cost was just under $25, plus I had a lot of fun putting it together.  I think it turned out really pretty. First I started with a 30" plain green wreath that I got at hobby lobby. Origional cost was 24.99, but at 50% off it was $12.00  I bought 8 decorative picks  with forest greenery, to help fill out the wreath a little. I also chose different sizes, to give the wreath some dimension. The picks were also 50% off at hobby lobby. I played around with the positions of the picks, until I foun...

Memories

All morning I have been thinking of my sweet little grandmas.  Both of my grandmas passed on quite a while ago. They were both strikingly different, one lived in town and the other lived on a farm.  I would like to share some stories about them, in a blog series called "Memories",  that are so inspiring and demonstrate how amazing they were.  Today, I would like to tell you about my "Town Grandma".   I remember this grandma was an "old grandma", she was born on August  24, 1879,  so when I was almost 6 ( just before she passed on) she was in her 70's.  Even though she died just before my 6th birthday it is amazing how much I remember about her.  Maybe it was because she was truly my best friend.  ,   This is a picture of my grandma and her 5 sisters.  My grandma is on the top row on the right. I want to share a story about her from the early 1900's The year was 1913, Katie Nye Hodgkinson was a young mother ...

Physicians Formula anti-aging set review

So I LOVE Physicians Formula products! A few months ago, I was looking at my self in the mirror, and I came to grips with the fact that I am aging. Although I am only 28, the stresses of raising two children (and sometimes a husband) is really starting to take its toll on my skin. I then decided  I needed  to switch up my normal skin care routine, to allow for some magical anti-aging products. ;) Being a licensed cosmetologist, I had access to a plethora of skin care products. However the nearest beauty supply shop is a 20-30 minute drive from my house.  Since I felt I needed the help immediately, (silly I know) I decided to give the good old Walmart a shot. I felt relatively sure that with my knowledge of ingredients that I could find something that would do.  I find that I am VERY happy that I did decide to try out Walmart.  Physicians Formula just came out with this fabulous anti-aging set.   ...

hairstyle #12 Braided Headband

C calls this hairstyle a "shell braid" lol,  I guess she thinks it looks like a shell. I love this style. because it is so simple,  It looks fabulous, and it can be done on adults as well as children. First you backcomb a section of hair away from the face. At this point your hairstyle should resemble something from the 80's Then you take a small section of hair at your hairline, just above your ear. Braid the section until your about 3/4 of the way to the end. Then repeat on the other side. Secure the braids together to form a headband. Finish with a cute accessory to make it seem even more like a headband.

Oh! Fudge

We have the most amazing local Library in our town.  Every month they have programs in the evening or on Saturdays that are fun and informative.  Today we had a program call "Oh! Fudge".  This was the eighth year of this particular candy making  demo at the Library. However, this is the first year that I attended and I was impressed!  Now, I have been married for 37 years and guess how much Christmas candy I have made... ZERO. Yep, I am not a candy maker.  But, I think I will try it this year.  My husband loves fudge so I think I will surprise him (Boy, after 37 years I think he will be surprised!)   The employees of the Library and other community helpers share their favorite candy recipes and demonstrate how to make it. The taste testing that goes along with it, is DEFINITELY a plus.  Here is one of the recipes, that I want to share with you. Chocolate Covered Cherry Fudge   by Mel...

Boston Jane Trilogy

Hi everyone,  I am here again with another trilogy of books to read.  This is for anyone that just enjoys reading.  You may laugh at this because this is not some sophisticated read.  It is simple, but fun.  In fact, I found these book in the young adult section of our local library.   I loved the simple little story with the true historical setting and facts of these books.  Book #1  Boston Jane: An Adventure,              Book #2  Boston Jane: Wilderness Days,    Book #3  Boston Jane: The Claim  by Jennifer L. Holms. Seventeen-year-old Jane Peck in the darling of Washington Territory more a home in the rugged Pacific Northwest that she ever was in the refined world of Philadelphia society.  She's outwitted wild animals, vengeful ghosts and even a disloyal fiance and finally found a place where she truly belongs.  But when her finishing-...

hairstyle# 11 A Simply cute toddler hairstyle

This style is simple, and easy. Perfect for those little toddlers, who wont hold still long. Plus it gets the hair out of their eyes, which is always a plus. The great thing is this style is for everyone! I have done my hair like this as well. It is so quick, but it looks super nice. Part hair on the side of head. Braid from forehead towards the back of head and secure. I use elastic bands in my girls hair, and bobby pins in my own. Curl the rest of hair with a curling iron. Finish with a cute bow. Gosh doesn't she have the CUTEST face ever? I LOVE that little smile so much!

hairstyle # 10

Do you guys remember the Topsy Tail commercials? I don't have Television anymore, do they still show those commercials? Any way today's style involves two rows of Topsy tails. First part the hair down the center all the way from the for head to the nape of the neck. Take a small section of hair and put it in a ponytail. Create a small hole in the base of the ponytail with your finger. Twist the end of the ponytail over and into the hole then pull tightly. Repeat these steps until you reach the neck on both sides of the head. At the end of your row of Topsy tails, tie the hair into a knot and then pin it with bobby pins so the remaining hair  falls over the knot. Place some cute bows on top of the knots, and voila your finished.

Book Review--To Heaven and Back

Hi, everyone I am blogger #2 and I thought I would write a book review.   One of my favorite hobbies is reading.  I love to read all types of books.  As all of my eight children would tell you, if you need a gift for mom just get her a book and she will be delighted.  Yesterday I finished a book that I thought was very inspiring.   The book I chose was   " To Heaven and Back" .  This book is a True Story wrote by Mary C. Meal, MD.    I will put down a little from the back of the book.  "To Heaven and Back is Mary's remarkable story of her life's spiritual journey and what happened as she moved from life to death to eternal life, and back again.  Detailing her feelings and surroundings in heaven, her communication with angels, and her deep sense of  sadness when she realized it wasn't her times,  Mary shares the captivating experience of her modern-day miracle.  Mary's l...

hairstyle #9 braid buns

Whooa (Big sigh of relief), I am so glad that November is here.  Don't get me wrong I love October  especially Halloween, but now that I am a grown up person Halloween isn't quite as fun as when I was a kid. Or maybe it is still as fun, but now I have to do all the work to prepare for  it. I love this time of year (really who doesn't?) I love the Beautiful autumn colors, and the slight nippy feeling outside. I love sitting by a cozy fire,  and taking really warm baths while the air around me has a slight chill.  Most of all I love Thanksgiving, and being around people I love. Well enough of my sentiments, and on to this really cute and simple hairstyle. This style is cute on everyone, and it is very quick. Which is always a plus when your rushing to get a little one ready for school. First you create two pigtails. Braid each pigtail Wrap the braid around the base of the pigtail and secure the tail into the elastic...
